ABOUT

The South Trail Fire & Rescue Cadet program is open to young men and women from the age of 14 (and in high school) until the age of 21. The Fire Rescue Cadet program is a section of the Florida Fire Chief's Association.

Since 1997 the South Trail Cadet program has provided area youths with an opportunity to learn about the fire service profession while having fun and making a contribution to the community. The cadets learn CPR and first aid, and participate in real-life training exercises, community events, field trips, and other related events.  Cadets can even participate in a ride-along program.

One of the favorite activities for the cadets is the ride-along program, where Cadets can ride on emergency vehicles and have limited participation in real-life emergency calls such as medical calls and fires.

The South Trail Fire & Rescue Cadets meet every Thursday from 6:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m., at Station 62, 13500 Sophomore Lane. As of 4/5/2025, we are at capacity for our cadet program and will not be accepting any more applications until the next application period opens. Our application periods will now be in September and March of every year, subject to change based on equipment availability and positions available. Please contact Engineer Adam Angelson through the means above with any questions about our Cadet Program.

Our application process has changed as of 8/20/2025. We will now be accepting applications with cover letters every March and September to be reviewed by our Advisors. Once the applications and cover letters are reviewed, applicants will be contacted by our Lead Advisor with a determination of either being accepted or declined access into our Cadet program. Those accepted will have a start date of the first Thursday of May and October.

We are opening applications for new cadets September 1st, 2025 for up to 4 positions (subject to change). The Application Period closes September 21, 2025. We are most interested in applicants who are interested in the fire service, are considering it for a future career, and can dedicate 50%-75% of their Thursdays per month to attend our weekly meetings. Eligible Applicants can be aged 13-20 years old, in 8th grade or higher, with a 2.5GPA or higher. All applicants may be subject to a background check, as needed. 

 

Membership and Uniforms Cost to join is $100. Renewals are $50 per year, due in September.
